Dry ice blasting is a revolutionary cleaning technology that uses dry ice pellets (carbon dioxide) as a blast media. The dry ice pellets work primarily via thermal shock. Dry ice is -80C so when the dry ice strikes the contaminated surface there is a thermal shock exerted on the contaminant and the underlying substrate which causes both items to contract, and instantly the bond between the two is weakened. As the pellet strikes the surface it instantaneously sublimates (reverts to a gas) in an explosive change of state, this then lifts the ‘snap frozen’ contaminant from the surface. Leaving behind no residue or secondary waste - because the pellets disappear this cleaning technique can be employed almost anywhere with minimal setup, and minimal cleanup after the fact. This makes dry ice blasting one of the most dynamic techniques for downtime reduction available in manufacturing, and provides many benefits in other industries such as fire and mould remediation.
